Mason Greenwood has been in fine form for Ligue 1 side Marseille this season and his performances have seen his value increase, which is good news for Manchester United
Manchester United could reap the rewards of Mason Greenwood's stellar performances at Marseille. The 24-year-old made a permanent move from Old Trafford to France in the summer of 2024, with United cleverly including a sell-on clause in his £26.7million transfer.
Greenwood has proven to be a steal for Marseille, netting an impressive 22 goals in the 2024/25 season. He's already chalked up 13 goal contributions this term, including a Champions League strike. Despite struggling in Europe, Marseille are making waves in Ligue 1 under Roberto De Zerbi, currently topping the table.
Paris Saint-Germain could leapfrog them by the end of Sunday however, with Marseille already winning 3-0 against Brest this weekend prior to the champions travelling to Lyon. Greenwood's pivotal role hasn't gone unnoticed by CIES, the football observatory website that provides data and analysis on players' values.
They regularly update their estimated valuations, and Greenwood's stock has certainly risen. In August, he was valued at a maximum of €57m (£49.3m), with the lowest estimate being €49m (£42.3m).
Just a few months on, his top price is now pegged at €64m (£56.2m), with a minimum value of €57m (£48.3m). Should Marseille eventually cash in on the player for somewhere near that figure, United stand to receive approximately £25million thanks to a shrewd 40 to 50 per cent sell-on clause negotiated by Old Trafford officials.
It's proving to be an astute piece of business by United given Greenwood's impressive displays. Since his departure from United, several other talented forwards have been moved on with Rasmus Hojlund joining Napoli on loan and Alejandro Garnacho sealing a permanent switch to Chelsea.
Marcus Rashford has also made a dream move to Barcelona with Greenwood's fellow academy graduate also impressing in front of goal. Whilst the English winger had netted just once in Marseille's previous five fixtures across all competitions – before converting a spot-kick in Saturday's comfortable 3-0 victory– he bagged four goals in a stunning 6-2 thrashing of Le Havre in mid-October, prompting high praise from De Zerbi.

"He has what it takes to become one of the best players in the world," the manager declared following that performance. "He's incredibly talented and puts in the work on the training ground."
De Zerbi and the Marseille hierarchy clearly rate Greenwood highly, though a departure remains possible, particularly if his exceptional form continues. Links to Italian outfit Lazio surfaced during the summer transfer window, but nothing came to fruition. Interest from European giants like Bayern Munich or Real Madrid pursuing his signature can't be discounted.
