Manchester United could be in the market for a new goalkeeper this season with doubts over Andre Onana persisting - and they've been linked with one of Europe's very best
Manchester United are among a handful of clubs monitoring Gianluigi Donnarumma’s situation at Paris Saint-Germain as contract talks between the Italy star and the newly minted European champions continue to drag on.
Donnarumma, 26, is widely regarded as one of the world's best goalkeepers and starred in PSG's triumphant Champions League campaign, which culminated with the 5-0 thrashing of Inter Milan in Saturday night's showpiece final. But his long-term future appears to be up in the air.
The former AC Milan star's current terms expire next summer and talks over an extension have already taken place with the club, who have tabled a proposal.
Foot Mercato, via GFFN, however, have revealed that Donnarumma has plenty of admirers among Europe's elite who are ready to pounce if the talented shot-stopper opts against signing a new deal.
United are among those clubs and a move for Donnarumma would appeal given there are still doubts over Andre Onana following another mixed season for the Cameroon star.
Whether they would be able to compete with some of the other teams in Donnarumma's signature remain to be seen, though, with the likes of Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid also lurking.
City, like their neighbours, are also likely to be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer with Ederson attracting interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
Donnarumma may have suitors elsewhere, but could yet to decide to extend his stay in the French capital, with the ball said to be in his court. That would involve a pay-cut, though, with the report adding that the offer on the table includes a 'lower variable portion' given Donnarumma's contract is the 'last of the old regime'.
Even if Donnarumma does decide to pursue a Premier League move, United would be unable to offer the PSG star European football as a result of their poor 2024-25 season.
Onana has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia amid the growing uncertainty over his position, with a change in goalkeeper seemingly a possibility for United this summer.
The Red Devils have already snapped up Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5million and are now expected to push for a deal which would see Bryan Mbeumo join him at Old Trafford after it emerged the Brentford star favours a move to United over Arsenal.
