Michael Carrick's Manchester United squad is yet to be bolstered this summer transfer window. But they are on the verge of a swift double deal.
In his second stint as interim boss, Carrick has guided his former club to a top-four finish and he has been rewarded for his exploits with a permanent role. He will begin his first pre-season as manager next week.

Double transfer
Away from transfers that impact the first-team, United are expected to sign Wales under-21 goalkeeper Kit Margetson from Swansea City.
The 19-year-old is the son of former England goalkeeping coach Martyn Margetson and it is expected that United will have to pay a compensation fee before welcoming him to Carrington.
But this transfer could become a double deal, as reports suggest that Margetson will be loaned out to an EFL club this summer in order to gain valuable first-team experience.
The shot-stopper joined Swansea at the under-15 level but has not made a senior appearance for them. He enjoyed a loan spell at Connah's Quay Nomads during the 2025/26 season.

Midfield plan
Elsewhere, United's hunt for a superstar midfield signing rolls on after missing out on both Elliot Anderson to Manchester City and Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham. Both Crystal Palace's Wharton and Brighton's Baleba have reportedly been on the club's shortlist for some time, but emerging reports suggest that another target will be preferred to this duo.
The Manchester Evening News reports that although Baleba was admired by United last summer, there has been little movement in this window so far, as Brighton haven't dropped their £100m asking price despite an underwhelming season.
On Wharton, the report states that the transfer trail has gone even colder and United view the Palace star as too similar to Kobbie Mainoo to play alongside him in a two-man midfield.
Bournemouth's Alex Scott is now supposedly at the top of the club's midfield wishlist and Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni has also been admired for several months. Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha also has a fan in director of football Jason Wilcox, who worked with him in Manchester City's academy.
