Manchester United should show Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the exit in order to bring in departing Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri, according to former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol.
ESPN pundit Nicol believes there is 'no contest' between the two managers and that United should convince the Italian to take the reigns at Old Trafford and get the club back to winning ways.
Juventus announced on Friday that Allegri would not be manager of the club next season, leading to United and a host of other top clubs being linked with the 51-year-old.
As Nicol and his fellow ESPN colleagues discussed who'd they'd rather have as manager, the ex-Liverpool full back had no doubts despite Solskjaer being given the permanent role as United boss in March.
'I know there's the human element in it,' he said on ESPN. 'But really?'
'Who would you rather have as your manager, Allegri or Solskjaer?
'Seriously, it's no contest.'
Since replacing Antonio Conte in 2014, Allegri has consistently delivered back-to-back Serie A titles while also guiding the club to two Champions League finals.
Allegri has previously spoken of his desire to work in the Premier League but recently revealed that he'd want to take a break from football before taking on another managerial position.
While Solskjaer did get off to a flying start with United after taking over from Jose Mourinho on an interim basis, the club plummeted to finish sixth in the table after a severe dip in form.
United won two of the final 10 matches in all competitions which means they will feature in the Europa League next season.
