Manchester United and Chelsea step up pursuit of Real Madrid rising star

For Real Madrid, one of the revelations of pre-season so far has been Joan Martinez. The 16-year-old centre-back has been with Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the last few weeks, and earlier this week, he impressed during his first team debut against AC Milan.

Because of Ancelotti’s lack of options in central defence due to the departures of Nacho Fernandez and Rafa Marin, Martinez is likely to remain in the first team dynamic at Real Madrid. However, a number of clubs in the Premier League are hoping this isn’t the case, as they plot to sign him this summer.

According to Diario AS, Manchester United and Chelsea are two of the teams that have taken an interest in Martinez. However, Real Madrid are relaxed about the situation, as they believe the teenager has no desire to leave.

Martinez could become an important player for Real Madrid in the coming years, to the point that he makes club bosses forget all about Leny Yoro, whom they failed to sign earlier this summer. He’s already been compared to legendary defender Sergio Ramos.
