Manchester United links to Real Madrid forward based on discussion with agent

Many in England have been surprised by the links between Manchester United and former Stoke City and Newcastle United forward Joselu Mato, but those in Spain will not be quite so taken aback. The 33-year-old has  been in fine form for several seasons, and playing a rotational role for Real Madrid, has the second-best scoring rate of any of their forward.

On loan from Espanyol, Real Madrid have an option to make his deal permanent in the summer for €1.5m, although if Los Pericos do not win promotion, they will be forced to loan him out again, which could benefit Los Blancos. They are yet to take a decision on his future though, and reportedly a number of clubs are keeping an eye on his situation.

Manchester United are one of those clubs, and the origin of that story comes from a discussion between the Red Devils and his agent, as Matteo Moretto has revealed to Football España. The 33-year-old target man will prioritise Real Madrid before listening to other offers though.

Joselu has 14 goals and 3 assists in his 45 outings this season, but most of those appearances have been from the bench. Averaging a goal every 135 minutes, his scoring rate is the second best in the Real Madrid squad behind only Vinicius Junior, and only Jude Bellingham and the Brazilian have more this season. His contribution has proved crucial for Carlo Ancelotti, in a season without another natural number nine.
