Manchester United make Mason Mount decision amid Chelsea transfer demands

Mason Mount is heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this summer amid an ongoing Chelsea contract stand-off

Manchester United are unwilling to pay more than £60million for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, according to reports.

The England international is being backed to lead a mass exodus out of Stamford Bridge as Mauricio Pochettino aims to trim an overpopulated squad. Speculation regarding Mount’s future was rife throughout 2022-23 and it appears likely he will be heading for the exit.

Just one year left on his contract means Chelsea may prefer a deal this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing. However, reports have suggested the Blues are wanting around £70million for the England international.

For context, Chelsea stumped up £45million for Raheem Sterling - who found himself in a similar situation - this time last year. The Blues would reportedly accept £60million for Mount but Man United are refusing to cave in to those demands.

A No.10 is viewed as one of the top priorities for the Red Devils as Erik ten Hag plans his own summer shake-up at Old Trafford. Reporter Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport that, while Mount is on their wish list, they will not be held to ransom by Chelsea.

"This is a high priority for Erik ten Hag but Manchester United are adamant that they need to be disciplined with Mount. They need to try and get him for under £60million and that, as I've said before, is because Manchester United's transfer policy is restricted.

"And if they are to bring in a couple of early players, then they're going to have to try and distribute their budget to allow that to happen rather than using it all up on one player."
