Manchester United star sends Casemiro message as Jadon Sancho question remains unanswered

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines on Thursday, December 22.

On-loan goalkeeper Martin Dubravka hailed teammate Casemiro after he slotted in seamlessly at centre-back during Manchester United's 2-0 Carabao Cup fourth round win over Burnley at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.

With Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez having not yet returned to United following Sunday's World Cup final between France and Argentina in Qatar, and Harry Maguire unavailable through illness, Casemiro was tasked with slotting in at centre-back, partnering Victor Lindelof in the heart of the defence. The Brazilian only returned to Carrington earlier this week following Brazil's World Cup exit at the quarter-final stage less than a fortnight ago.

Despite his inexperience at centre-back, the 30-year-old produced a solid display, helping United book their place in the last eight of the competition. His composure on the ball was a key element in helping Erik ten Hag's side record a first clean sheet in four matches.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was blunt with his response when he was asked for an update on Jadon Sancho following his team's 2-0 win over Burnley in the Carabao Cup.

Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford fired United into the quarter-finals of the League Cup against the Championship league leaders. United's World Cup representatives from the likes of England and Brazil have already returned to the club ahead of the Premier League restart but Sancho remains out of contention despite not being involved in Qatar.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Sancho was still undertaking his own personal training programme away from Ten Hag's squad. The 22-year-old hasn't featured for United since their draw with Chelsea in October whilst he has not been pictured in first-team training since the end of that month.
