Lionel Messi has been slammed by Dutch legend Marco van Basten over his proposed move to Saudi Arabia, which would make him the highest-paid player in the world.
Messi is set to leave PSG this summer after reportedly deciding not to sign a new deal with the French champions, and will be a free agent at the end of the season.
The World Cup winner has been linked with a return to Barcelona as well as possible move to MLS, however some reports have suggested Messi is ready to follow Cristiano Ronaldo to Saudi Arabia, in a deal that would make him the wealthiest player on the planet.
Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal are said to be tempting the 35-year-old with a deal worth £522m, but it's a move that doesn't impress former Dutch striker Van Basten, who has urged Messi to do what he wants to do rather than be persuaded by the financials.
During a debate on Ziggo Sport's Rondo discussing Messi's next move, Van Basten said: 'I think it's poor. That you still have to go there for a lot of money.
You've earned plenty, go do things you like. I can't imagine that. You are your own boss, aren't you? You can play football wherever you want, right?'
Messi's next move is set to be the talk of the summer, with David Beckham's Inter Miami keen on seeing him move to the MLS, while Barcelona fans still hope to see the club icon return to the Nou Camp despite their fragile financial position.
The Argentinian returned to training at PSG yesterday, after his two-week ban from the club after taking an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia was lifted following his public apology.
He could now figure for the Ligue 1 leaders against Ajaccio on Saturday, as PSG close in on another title win.
In Messi's absence Christophe Galtier's men saw off Troyes with a 3-1 win on Sunday evening thanks to goals from Kylian Mbappe, Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz.
They are six points clear of second-placed Lens, with four games of the season left of the season to play.
