Olympique de Marseille have confirmed that Facundo Medina (26) will be sidelined for around two months after sustaining an ankle injury in the Europa League clash against Ajax on Tuesday night.

The Argentine centre-back, who joined OM this summer from RC Lens, suffered a right ankle sprain during the encounter. He was forced off and medical examinations carried out on Wednesday revealed the extent of the damage.

In a statement, Marseille wished Medina a “speedy recovery” and expressed their hope of seeing him back on the pitch “as soon as possible.”Les Olympiens earned their first points on their return to the Champions League last night with a 4-0 win over Ajax, which saw Medina start in defence with Nayef Aguerd after Leonardo Balerdi was ruled out last minute. Roberto De Zerbi’s men travel to promoted side FC Metz this weekend (Saturday 17:00 CET) hoping to make it three wins on the bounce in the league, after beating PSG and Strasbourg consecutively to push themselves up the table after a difficult start to the season.GFFN | George Boxall
