If there was any remaining doubt that Kylian Mbappé (24) is the undisputed franchise player and frontman of Paris Saint-Germain, the club’s latest season ticket renewal campaign advertisement allays those doubts.
The struggling Ligue 1 leaders have sent their faithful fans a video clip to promote their renewal campaign for the 2023-2024 season with the France skipper taking centre stage. So much so that other star players like Lionel Messi (35) and Neymar (31) are conspicuous by their absence.
Mbappé is seen sitting in the Parc des Princes’ stands, praising the significance of the home fans’ support. “The passion, the ground, the atmosphere… The Parc des Princes transmits a lot of things. It is the 12th man, it is what brings us additional strength to fight our battles,” assessed Mbappé. The former AS Monaco forward continued, “Being Parisian is to be proud, of what we are, of what we represent, proud to be ambitious, to want to do things, a desire to win, to always surpass ourselves and never forget where we come from.”
The video clip is edited with shots of the more promising PSG young players, such as youth products Warren Zaïre-Emery or Ismaël Gharbi, or Portuguese left-bak Nuno Mendes. But, again, no signs of Neymar or Messi, which can be interpreted as a clue to what their future holds at PSG. The Argentine is out of contract next June and all signs point to him not extending his two-year stay in the French capital. Messi’s entourage has dismissed rumours of an exit as “fake news.” Meanwhile, the Brazilian maverick may be transfer-listed in order to free up funds and rid his wages, but there’s no telling he’d accept to leave PSG, as he is tied with the club until 2027.
