Lionel Messi will become the youngest ever player to take part in 5 FIFA World Cups at 35 years of age.

He is younger than Gianluigi Buffon at 36, Antonio Carbajal at 37, Cristiano Ronaldo at 37, Lothar Matthaüs at 37 and Rafael Márquez at 39 years old. This via TyC Sports.

Messi career at the past 4 World Cups

Messi came closest to winning the World Cup in 2014, when Argentina were beaten in the final by Germany. Given the talent he possesses, Messi will be disappointed with his return of six goals in 19 World Cup appearances. The 2010 World Cup was especially disappointing for Messi as he failed to score a single goal, but he did perform better four years later. Somewhat surprisingly, he hasn't scored beyond the Round of 16 stage so far.
