According to TuttoMercatoWeb, with the coaching staff and management now in place, Milan is rebuilding its squad for the 2026/27 season.

Regarding loan situations, James, Morata, Colombo, and Pobega have been permanently signed by Bournemouth, Como, Genoa, and Bologna, respectively. Füllkrug has returned from West Ham, and Camarda has been recalled by Lecce after they exercised a buyback clause. Meanwhile, Chukwueze, Musah, Bennacer, Cissé, Bondo, Traoré, and Zeroli have also returned. Milan's current squad totals 29 players for the 2026/27 season, which is excessive, and most of the returning loanees are expected to be loaned out again.
In goal, Maignan has renewed his contract through 2031, despite recent uncertainty that raised questions about whether the captain would remain. It will now be up to Amorim, as it was for Allegri 12 months ago, to convince him of the team's project. Pérot-Traoré will continue as second-choice goalkeeper, and Lorenzo Torriani as third.
The defense still requires reinforcements. Last season, Milan had an unusual situation in defense, using only five center-backs all season, with one barely featured: Odogwu. For a three-at-the-back system, this is insufficient, and under Amorim, the team will continue to operate with three center-backs. The current center-backs are Tomori, De Winter, Gabbia, Pavlovic, and Odogwu. Tomori may depart, and young German defender Odogwu's future remains uncertain. The club needs at least two new signings.
In midfield, focus centers on Modrić and Rabiot. On the right flank, there are Saelemaekers, Atame, and Musah; at least one will likely leave. The left side needs strengthening: Estupiñán underperformed, and Bartesaghi, though excellent in the first half of the season, declined significantly thereafter. However, Bartesaghi is a club academy product and an Italian player—such talents are rare in Champions League squads. In central midfield, Modrić's decision remains pending, but a departure appears more likely. Rabiot also bears watching; after reuniting with Allegri at Napoli, he may seek a move. Jashari and Ricci are both targets for Atalanta, and one could depart. Fofana is not untouchable, and both Bondo and Zeroli need their futures clarified. Loftus-Cheek's Milan future may also be winding down, despite his versatility as a central midfielder in a four-man setup or as one of two attacking midfielders. Young Cissé can remain for at least the first half of the season. Bennacer is no longer part of the plans.
Upfront, Gonçalo Ramos is Amorim's chosen striker and will replace Santiago Giménez. Giménez spent 18 months at Milan with limited goal contributions and is expected to join Porto for €28 million. Camarda will replace Füllkrug, who was not retained. If deployed in a 3-4-2-1 system, Nkunku could complement Pulisic well, though "Captain America" has also attracted transfer speculation, with recent reports linking him to New York. Leão explicitly expressed his desire to leave, but Amorim's arrival—his fellow Portuguese—may change his thinking. Chukwueze's future requires further assessment.
