One of the biggest debates in football revolves around who is better: Messi or Ronaldo.
However, Modric doesn't favor either side, but he does have his own favorite. And that person is another Argentinian, Maradona.
“Maradona is the greatest. Messi and Diego are great, but Diego is Diego,” he repeatedly stated, insisting that his greatest idol is the former Napoli star.
This isn't the first time Modric has displayed his fervent admiration for Maradona. In a conversation with a Spanish video blogger, the Croatian chose Maradona for his top five all-time greats, alongside Ronaldo, Totti, Boban, and Zidane. Yes, once again, he didn't choose Messi or Ronaldo.
On another occasion, he was visibly moved when he received a Maradona jersey from an ESPN reporter at Euro 2024: “It's an honor. I'm very happy to have this jersey. Diego is the greatest. You moved me with this,” Modric said.
