Chelsea news as former Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans defensive end JJ Watt discusses his affection for Chelsea after becoming an investor in Championship winners Burnley

NFL star JJ Watt has spoken about his links with Chelsea after agreeing to become part of the ownership group of Championship winners Burnley.

Watt will now gear up for his first full season as an investor in Burnley and with it two games against Chelsea, who the 34 year-old has supported in the past. He has now discussed his affection for the Blues in an interview with talkSPORT and says he will not hide the fact he supported the club.

"I was a big, big Didier Drogba fan from his Ivory Coast days so I followed along with Chelsea," Watt said. "I do not hide it and I am sure people are going to send photos of me holding up a Chelsea kit.

"They can also show photos of me holding up a Manchester City kit because Sergio Aguero is my friend or a Tottenham Hotspur kit because Harry Kane is my friend. These things are going to be out there and that is fine but the reality is that Burnley is the right club for us because there is an opportunity to come in and make a difference.

"Some of these massive clubs, they are worth five, six or seven billion pounds, a large corporate machine and there is not a lot of opportunity to come in and actually help make a difference." Watt said when asked for his thoughts on what has happened at Chelsea after the arrival of the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership group.

Chelsea have spent big in both transfer windows and have created a bloated and unbalanced squad in the process. "We are not spending £600million in transfer windows so we are going to find different ways to make it work," Watt said.

"The honest truth is it is about coming in and doing it right and doing right by our supporters, trying to do what we can to help the club. "That's one way, you can say he has financially poured a tonne of money into the club, so that is his way of doing it.

"My wife and I, we are minority investors, we are not a majority so it's not like we are going out and finding transfers but what we are doing is telling the Burnley fans' stories and trying to make them feel seen on a global stage."
