The legendary Alessandro Nesta was one of the all-time greats, but even he suffered when he went up against Lionel Messi with AC Milan.
The Italian centre-back faced Messi four times, with all of those matches coming in the 2011/12 Champions League as AC Milan and Barcelona met in the group stages and the quarter-finals.
"In the 10th minute I kicked him and fell to the ground exhausted, seeing stars," Nesta told Calciatori Brutti.
"Then he held out his hand to help me up. I was on the ground and, when I opened my eyes two seconds later, I saw his face and his hand as he wanted to help me upp. That destroyed me mentally.
"What depressed me was that he had got away 10 times in the first 10 minutes and I was starting to feel 37."
