Neymar is believed to have called Lionel Messi in an attempt to convince the Argentine to leave Barcelona this summer and join him at Paris St-Germain.
The Spanish giants looked set to lose their star man last summer as the relationship between player and club broke down, but Messi eventually backed down and decided to stay.
However, with his contract at the Nou Camp expiring in July at the end of this season, rumours of an exit are once again intensifying.
And according to L'Equipe, Neymar has contacted his former team-mate to try and persuade him that PSG should be his next destination this summer.
This would not be the first time the Brazilian forward has spoken of his desire to reunite with Messi, freely admitting publicly in December that he is desperate to play with the six-time Ballon d'Or winner again.
'What I want most of all is to play with Messi again, to be able to enjoy him once again on the pitch,' Neymar told ESPN.
''He can play in my place, I have no problem with that! But I want to play with him next year, for sure. We have to do it next season.'
Neymar will miss out on the chance to share the pitch with Messi on Tuesday night, albeit on opposing teams, when Barcelona host PSG in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie.
The Brazilian suffered a groin injury against Caen last week and is set to be on the sidelines for a month, a spell that would almost certainly see him miss the return leg in Paris as well.
It means there will be no return for Neymar to a club he played at between 2013 and 2017, scoring 105 goals and assisting a further 59 during his spell in Spain.
Of those 59 assists, 22 were for goals scored by Messi, and should the Argentine finally make the decision to leave Barcelona in the summer, the prospect of forming a frontline with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe may prove to be an enticing one.
