Neymar is "angry and sad" after he was left out of Carlo Ancelotti's latest Brazil squad.

However, the 34-year-old is still holding out hope he will be able to feature for his nation at this summer's World Cup.

Neymar, who is Brazil's record goalscorer, was named in Ancelotti's preliminary squad for Brazil's upcoming friendlies against France and Croatia.

But Ancelotti did not include Neymar in his final selection, which was announced on Monday.

"You cannot simply brush that aside," Neymar said, as quoted by Brazilian media outlets.

"Of course, I am angry and sad that I was not called up.

"But the focus remains day by day, every training session, match by match. We will achieve our goal. There is still one final call-up to come, and the dream lives on."

In a press conference accompanying his squad announcement, Ancelotti said: "Neymar can go to the World Cup – if he is 100% fit."

The Italian explained Neymar was not called up this month due to not being fully fit.

Neymar has not played for Brazil since 2023, when he sustained a serious knee injury while in action against Uruguay.
