Neymar to Arsenal? Mikel Arteta told it's 'not impossible' to get transfer done

Ex-Arsenal man Gilberto Silva believes a summer transfer that sees Neymar playing for the Gunners is "not impossible".

The Brazilian has endured a horror spell since moving to Saudi Arabia, playing just a handful of games for Al-Hilal before a major injury struck. He hasn't played for them since as they went on to claim the domestic title in dominant fashion.

It is Neymar's first year away from Europe since joining Barcelona back in 2013 but at 32 he still has plenty to offer. The Brazilian has previously been prolific during his career, claiming numerous titles, and his compatriot claims a move to the Premier League is feasible.

Gilberto told Bet365 : “I’d love to see Neymar in the Premier League with Arsenal, it would be interesting that’s for sure. It would bring a lot of joy to fans and make the competition even more special. When you look at the Premier League, we want to see the best players in the world and to have him around would be great. Let's see. It's not impossible that he could join Arsenal, why not.”

The Gunners are in the market for more firepower this summer, but have been knocked back by the likes of Benjamin Sesko, who opted to remain at RB Leipzig. Gabriel Jesus was their last major recruit in the attacking third, but he hasn't scored with regularity.

Neymar previously produced huge numbers, especially during his Barcelona days. He has often played from a wider role however, rather than a No 9, which may not appeal to Mikel Arteta.

Earlier in his career Neymar did open the door to an England switch as he said: “The Premier League is a championship that amazes me. I like the playing style and the teams. And who knows? Someday, I would like to play [in] it, yes. I admire Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool —these are the teams that are always there fighting."

Neymar, who will sit out of the Copa America this summer, did underline his desire to make an impact in Saudi next term after his team's success without him. He said on social media: "Congrats on an amazing year team, you guys rocked it and today you outdid yourselves again! Thank you for the titles this year. Next season leave it to me. LETS GO HILAL. This year Saudi is BLUE."
