Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule is reportedly being closely monitored by Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Sport1, Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Sule ahead of a busy summer transfer window. The Red Devils believe the German defender has all the right qualities to succeed in the Premier League.

The report further suggests that United have already made a preliminary inquiry about the German defender.

Bayern were able to beat Chelsea to sign Sule from Hoffenheim in 2017. The German giant was not always a first choice center-back in his debut season, but he has become a key member of the starting lineup under Niko Kovac.

Sule has delivered some impressive performances in the past two seasons despite the overall defensive frailty of the club. It would be a huge surprise if Bayern even consider selling him this summer — even if Manchester United make a massive bid for him.

There will be some heavy competition for places in central defense next season. However, Bayern tend to build their team around a core of young German players, and Sule is the perfect young defender around which they can build their back line.

His current contract doesn't expire until 2022, and he is happy with life in Bavaria. Bayern have no need to worry about Manchester United's reported interest in the player.

Though they're not going to be selling Sule, Bayern will be hoping they get a few decent offers for Jerome Boateng in the summer. The 30-year-old was close to joining Paris Saint-Germain last summer, but the two clubs couldn't agree on a fee. Hummels, meanwhile, is also keeping all his options open as his future is uncertain as well.

It would be sensible from Bayern's side to keep at least one of the two experienced defenders, as Lucas Hernandez will require time to adapt and completely recover from a serious knee surgery.
