Barcelona's official statement on the ruling of the EU Court of Justice regarding the Super League ⬇️

"FC Barcelona wants to express its satisfaction with the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) in which the Super League project proposed by A22 Sports is endorsed. As one of the driving entities of the Super League, FC Barcelona considers that the ruling opens the way to a new top-level football competition in Europe by demonstrating against the figure of the monopoly in the world of football, and wants offer a proposal for dialogue on what the European competition model of the future should be.

Since its founding in 1899, FC Barcelona has been a pioneering club in the world of sports, leading the drive and professionalization of its structures, both domestically and internationally, in both men's and women's competitions, from its multi-sport vocation. and social aspect. For this reason, as it has been defending in recent years, the Club believes that the sustainability of European football in the medium term involves the creation of a concept like the one led by A22 for the Super League.

A competitive model that provides solutions to the overload of the calendar and the excess of national team matches, that advances in the regulation regarding financial fair-play between the competition teams and that puts local soccer players and fans internationals at the center of the show. A model that respects the functioning and sustainability of domestic competitions and that must have the meritocracy of the results as the main engine of the game.

In the year in which the Club will celebrate its 125th anniversary, Barca wants to continue contributing its experience and multi-sport knowledge to propose solutions to the current problems that high-level sport has. For this reason, it supports the Super League proposal promoted by A22 and encourages starting a constructive debate between all football organizations, both domestically and internationally, now that it has been endorsed by today's ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union."

However, In the statement issued by LaLiga, the Spanish league argued that 'although the promoters of the Super League claim that this judgement is in their favour, the reality is that the CJEU has been clear in stating that it "does not mean that a competition such as the Super League project must necessarily by approved".'

President Javier Tebas similarly brushed off bombast from the supposed victors in the case, saying: 'The ruling confirms what we have always said: anyone can organise competitions outside of the UEFA and FIFA ecosystems, this cannot be prohibited and no one has questioned this.

'The judicial question is the condition for these competitions to be under the UEFA and FIFA ecosystem, i.e. that there must be transparent, clear, and objective rules for the approval of new competitions. In 2022, UEFA already established a procedure to authorise new competitions that can be used by the European Super League or any other competition.'

The statement from the Spanish top flight added that the creation of such a league was 'designed to enrich the wealthies clubs and concentrate power in the hands of a small number of privileged teams.

LaLiga argued that as a result, there would be a 'loss of tens of thousands of jobs' and the league would 'drastically reduce tax revenues for public coffers across the continent'.

Within hours of the verdict, clubs in Spain began aligning themselves with their league, offering a public rejection of the breakaway league's concept.

Valencia's social media account reposted a graphic stating that clubs should 'earn it on the pitch' with the accompanying words as a hashtag.
