OFFICIAL: Eduardo Camavinga has ruptured his external lateral ligament in right knee and will be out for 8 weeks.

Real Madrid star Camavinga has sustained an injury setback shortly after joining up with the French national team for international duty. Diario AS say this will keep him out for eight weeks. It means his 2023 is over.

According to Spanish journalist Birlanga, it’s unlikely that Camavinga will make it back for the Spanish Super Cup, which is due to get underway in the second week of January.

He was injured during a collision with Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele in Wednesday evening’s session in Clairefontaine. Whilst L’Équipe initially revealed that preliminary tests were “reassuring” and Camavinga himself seemingly told Didier Deschamps that the knee was “okay”, the severity of the injury has now been ascertained.

Camavinga had further tests on Friday, this time from Real Madrid’s own doctors. The club have confirmed the nature of the injury but did not comment on the recovery time. However, multiple sources, including L’Équipe and Fabrizio Romano have evoked an absence of approximately two months.

OGC Nice’s Khephren Thuram was called up as Camavinga’s replacement for the ongoing international break.
