Barcelona confirm Guangzhou Evergrande have activated Paulinho’s buy-back option early

Barcelona have confirmed that Guangzhou Evergrande have activated the buy-back clause in Paulinho’s loan deal ahead of schedule.

The Brazil international returned to the Chinese Super League side on a season-long loan in July, but the move had already been made official.

Barcelona have not confirmed how much Paulinho has been sold for and reports vary from €42m to €50m. Either way it’s more than the €40m Barca paid in summer 2017.

The acquisition of Paulinho was largely mocked when he first arrived, largely due to his previous struggles with Tottenham.

However, he scored 9 La Liga goals for Barcelona in his season at the Camp Nou and played a role in their league and cup double success.

Only few players make a name for themselves when they are over 30years of age, i have to say Paulinho had his best season of his career at barcalona unfortunately he didn’t get that at spurs because they just don’t know how to groom a young player. Good luck to him👊🏼!!

I love this guy even though he is in Barça for only one season. I want him back at camp nou and he is even better than Vidal. He is solid and good in intercepting. Barça went almost unbeaten and lost only 2 game in the whole season. All because we have umtiti and Nelson semedo. these two are solid.
