OFFICIAL: James Maddison has been named EPL Player of the Month for August
A summer signing from Leicester City, James has enjoyed a superb start to life in north London and he has now capped that off by claiming his first ever Player of the Month award in England's top flight.
Having previously been nominated for the prize on four occasions during his five-year spell with the Foxes, Madders has now gone one better by winning the inaugural award of the the 2023/24 season thanks to an incredible first month in Lilywhite.
Producing both assists for Spurs’ two strikes in the opening weekend draw with Brentford, he then scored his first goal as the club travelled to Bournemouth two weeks later, stroking home after neat intricate play in our 2-0 win at the Vitality Stadium.
He then continued that goalscoring form into September as he bagged away at Burnley in the 5-2 triumph.
Speaking to the Premier League about the achievement, he said: "I've been nominated for the award a few times, so it's a nice feeling to actually win it! It's never easy as a new player at a new club in the Premier League, so if you'd have offered me this at the start of the season, I'd have bitten your hand off.
"So many big names, elite players in the past and currently have won this award so it's nice to be in that category. This award will sit nicely on the mantelpiece."
With a few games under his belt now, Maddison was asked about his favourite moment under Postecoglou so far and rather than a goal or an assist, he pointed towards a match, adding: "I'd probably say none of the goals or assists, but walking out against Man Utd for the first home game. I had goosebumps."
