The German Football Association officially announced that Bayern Munich youth player Lennart Karl will miss the World Cup due to a torn muscle in his left thigh, and Ouedraogo will replace him.

The official announcement stated: "Karl suffered a torn muscle in his left thigh during the final training session before the German national team's friendly match against the USA in Chicago on Friday and will miss the World Cup. National team coach Nagelsmann has called up Ouedraogo from RB Leipzig as a replacement."

Nagelsmann said: "I feel incredibly sorry for Karl. His attitude, excellent talent, speed, and personality made him a perfect fit for the team. His absence from the World Cup is a huge blow for him and for all of us. The only consolation is that he is still young and has many more major tournaments to play in the future. We had really hoped he would join the team. Now, we have called up Ouedraogo, who, like Karl, had an excellent debut for our team. He is also very talented, and we expect him to play bravely and freely."
