The German Football Association officially announced at a press conference that Klopp will replace Nagelsmann as head coach of the German national team, signing a contract until July 2030.
After Germany suffered a shocking defeat to Paraguay in the Round of 32 at the World Cup 2026 and were eliminated, Nagelsmann voluntarily announced his resignation as head coach of the German national team. Subsequently, the German Football Association announced that Jürgen Klopp had officially signed on as the new head coach of the Germany national team.
Klopp coached Mainz from 2001 to 2008 and led the team to promotion to the Bundesliga in 2004. From 2008 to 2015, he served as head coach of Borussia Dortmund, leading the team to the Bundesliga titles in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, the German Cup title in the 2011-12 season, and a runner-up finish in the Champions League in the 2012-13 season. During his time coaching Liverpool from 2015 to 2024, Klopp led the team to the 2018-19 Champions League title, the 2019-20 Premier League title, the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup title, the 2019 UEFA Super Cup title, the 2021-22 FA Cup title, and the English League Cup titles in the 2021-22 and 2023-24 seasons. In the summer of 2024, Klopp announced his departure from Liverpool. On January 1, 2025, Red Bull GmbH announced that Klopp would begin serving as Red Bull’s global head of soccer. In the summer of 2026, Klopp and Red Bull GmbH mutually agreed to terminate the contract; since there was no release clause between the two parties, no transfer fee was generated.
In addition to Klopp, the coaching staff will also include Klopp’s longtime assistants Krawietz and Lijnders, as well as Sven Bender.
