The former Liverpool midfielder replaces Graeme Murty at Ibrox, in what is his first foray into management
Steven Gerrard has been officially announced as Rangers manager.
The job is the 37-year-old's first in senior management, though he has spent the last year managing Liverpool's Under-18 team.
Gerrard retired in 2016 after a trophy-laden career. The former England international spent a total of 17 years at Anfield, winning the FA Cup twice, the League Cup three times, and the Champions League once, along with one UEFA Cup and one UEFA Super Cup.
He called time on his career after a spell at LA Galaxy, though he was unable to round off his career with another trophy. Gerrard also won 114 caps for England.
Gerrard has previously rejected an offer to manage MK Dons, and will instead succeed Graeme Murty at Ibrox after signing a four-year contract.
Murty left the club earlier this week, having been given the job in December following the sacking of Pedro Caixinha.
The club confirmed that Murty could continue to work within the club, but assistants Jimmy Nicholl and Jonatan Johansson will be on the touchline for the final three games of the season, against Kilmarnock, Aberdeen and Hibernian.
Rangers are currently third in the SPL, but sit 13 points behind champions Celtic, and were thumped 5-0 by Brendan Rodgers' side just last week.
