OFFICIAL: Messi will miss the Monaco clash due to injury
Argentine playmaker Lionel Messi (35) will be out of contention for Les Parisiens’ Ligue 1 gameweek 23 clash against Monaco on Saturday, the club has announced. The 2022 World Cup winner suffered a hamstring injury during the club’s 2-1 Coupe de France tie loss against fierce rivals Olympique de Marseille. However, Messi did play the full 90 minutes. PSG have announced in a statement this afternoon that Messi will receive medical treatement for the next 48 hours and that he is expected to return to training on Monday. It means that he may be available for Tuesday’s Champions League last 16 first leg against Bayern Munich. Whether he’ll start the game on the pitch or on the bench remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe (24) is working to give himself a chance of appearing on the bench and Moroccan right-back Achraf Hakimi (24) also joined the growing injury list at PSG. According to PSG boss Christophe Galtier, Messi is “not a doubt” for the Bayern clash at Parc des Princes this Tuesday.
Christophe Galtier:
“Messi is the one who controls the game in our team and has always been decisive for us. In his absence, we have to find another way, but certainly going to Monaco without Messi is a big loss. We will have him against Bayern”
