CLUB OFFICIAL STATEMENT
Olympique de Marseille is proud to announce the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabonese international striker joined the club this afternoon.
He runs, he scores, and he smiles.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has never really walked. From his first steps on Catalan soil, where his father played football long before him, to the supersonic sprints that have rocked the European nets, "Auba" has always had that rare gift: that of making time an ally, and space, a playground.
Born in Laval, raised in a family of footballing siblings and a demanding Gabonese international father, Pierre-Emerick grew up with a predetermined destiny. But unlike so many others, he didn't just follow the rules: he went beyond them.
After starting out at AC Milan, then loan spells in France (Dijon, Lille, Monaco) before bursting onto the scene at Saint-Étienne, the young striker honed his craft: pure speed, sharp runs, and surgical finishing. At Dortmund, he scored goals like pearls for five seasons. The adventure continued for four years at Arsenal, then FC Barcelona, still with just as much success.
Coming from Chelsea, he signed for Marseille, where, after a normal adaptation period, his talent burst forth one autumn evening against Ajax. " I came to thrill, " he said at his first press conference, with his almost youthful smile. The fans were not disappointed. A hat-trick against the Dutch, and as winter approached, "PEA" warmed up the Orange Vélodrome with his goals, acrobatic celebrations, and insatiable desire. The 34-year-old became the spearhead of an explosive Marseille attack when he was at its heart.
Doubles against Montpellier, Nantes, Lorient, flashes of brilliance in Europe, notably during a memorable evening against Villarreal… He finished the 2023-2024 season with 30 goals in all competitions. This is something unseen at OM since Didier Drogba, 20 years earlier. The demanding Marseille public now praises him to the skies. The "old lion" roars again.
A season in Saudi Arabia later, during which he scored 21 goals in 36 matches, the Gabonese international's slender figure returns to Marseille. At 36, he still has the fire to rock stadiums. And above all, that deep desire to play, to excite, to give.
In Marseille, he found more than a club: a theater that suited him.
Welcome Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang!
