This summer, the 41-year-old Ochoa represented the Mexican national team at the World Cup, becoming one of only three players in history, alongside Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, to participate in six World Cups. In an interview with LaLiga, he described his idea of the perfect goalkeeper in La Liga history.

Ochoa began his career at Club América in Mexico, playing two stints there before moving to La Liga, where he played for Málaga (2014-2016) and Granada (2016-2017). In the interview, he selected the qualities he most admired from several goalkeepers who have played in La Liga in recent years.

The retired Mexican international first chose "Víctor Valdés' reaction speed". Valdés won numerous honors with Barcelona and the Spanish national team, including 6 La Liga titles, 3 Champions League titles, and the 2010 World Cup. When discussing current Real Madrid goalkeeper and former Atlético Madrid star Courtois, Ochoa specifically praised "his ability with aerial balls and his career trajectory".

Speaking of another Real Madrid legend, Iker Casillas, Ochoa most admired his "personality and leadership". Casillas not only won the World Cup and two European Championships with the Spanish national team but also secured 5 La Liga titles and 3 Champions League titles for Real Madrid.

Finally, Ochoa also mentioned Athletic Bilbao and current Spanish national team goalkeeper Unai Simón. The player, who won the World Cup this summer and is also a champion of Euro 2024, was most praised by Ochoa for "his passing ability".
