Jean-Clair Todibo (24) has officially joined West Ham United from OGC Nice. Todibo arrives on a loan deal with an option to buy for an undisclosed fee, widely considered to be around €40 million.
Todibo developed in the Toulouse FC academy system before he was bought by FC Barcelona in 2019. The then 20-year-old struggled to make a name for himself at the Catalan club. Loans to FC Schalke and SL Benfica preceded a 2021 loan move to Nice where his purchase option was triggered.
At Nice, Todibo managed to demonstrate his potential on a regular basis earning him consistent rumours linking him with a departure from Les Aiglons and a call-up to Didier Deschamps’ France team in 2023. Todibo was unable to nail a place in Deschamps’ squad for the Euros this summer, but the long-rumoured move has now finally materialised.
It had looked likely that Todibo would join Juventus after reports emerged that the Frenchman was prioritising a move to the Bianconeri but the Italian club failed to meet Nice’s demands while West Ham worked tirelessly to convince the player that his future could belong to the Premier League rather than Serie A.
