Hi all, welcome to All Football's On This Day! Let's find out what happened today (April 30th) in football history. If you have more stories and news that happened on this day in history, feel free to post them in the comment area and share them with AFers.

On this day: 2005 - Chelsea sealed first championship for 50 years with victory at Bolton

Frank Lampard struck twice in the second half as manager Jose Mourinho added the Premiership to the Carling Cup in his first season in charge.

The wait was over, Chelsea were champions and if there was any justice in the world Frank Lampard's two-goal contribution will secure him the footballer-of-the-year award as well.

Lampard was certainly the player of this match, his class and commitment lifting Chelsea above Bolton's dogged challenge even before his goals ended his club's 50-year wait for a title. He may still lose out to John Terry in the second of the season's individual awards, but there is little argument about Chelsea's right to the title. Losing just once while letting in only 13 goals was astonishing.

On this day - Barca keep Marc-Andre ter Stegen was born

After four seasons in the Bundesliga with Borussia Mönchengladbach, making 108 league appearances, he joined Barcelona for €12 million in 2014.

He won the treble in his first season in Spain, playing for Barcelona in Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League.

Ter Stegen represented Germany at several youth levels and made his senior international debut in 2012.

He was part of the German squads that reached the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2016 and won the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, and was also a member of the German side that took part at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

On this day in 2006 - Reading made a few points

On 30 April 2006, Reading concluded the Championship season by beating QPR 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium before a crowd of 23,156. The win gave Reading a total of 106 points for the season, setting an English Football League record.

The remainder of their matches consisted of 28 wins and 16 draws, setting a record pace that saw them take the table's top spot on 22 November and keep it through the end of the season.

The win pushed Reading to 106 points, one past the previous points record of 105 set by Sunderland in the 1998-99 season.
