According to 'Le Parisien' Thiago Silva, París Saint-Germain's current captain, has this Friday been awarded French citizenship. The centre defender has been in Paris since 2012 and has constantly shown his loyalty to the club. His wife and children have also become French nationals.
This situation could aid PSG as they look to restructure their squad yet again this summer as they'll now have an extra non-EU spot to fill. Up until this moment, the club was only using three of the four available covered. They were Silva, Neymar recent arrival Leandro Paredes. Now Nasser Al Khelaifi and the sporting department will be able to add two more non-EU players to theur squad.
Silva had to pass a series of requirements to qualify for dual nationality: live in the country for four years, speak the language, have no previous criminal convictions and respect the values of the country. The defender happily announced the news on social media.
