Despite his fragile physical condition, Pape Matar Sarr insisted on participating in the Lion’s historic celebration in the streets of Dakar.

The Tottenham midfielder expressed his emotion at the fervor of the Senegalese public, emphasizing that this unique bond with the people is the very essence of his commitment to the national team.
For him, this communion goes beyond the sporting arena to become a mission of national representation.
The Senegalese international was also honored by the Head of State, receiving the rank of Commander of the National Order of the Lion.
Deeply touched by this distinction, he dedicated his successes to the fans, calling them the true champions of Africa.
Here is his message in full:
“The popular fervor experienced in the streets of Dakar is what gives meaning to this jersey and what we represent together. Even though I was physically diminished, I wanted to be there, to experience every moment alongside my teammates and to share this immense joy with an entire nation. Being elevated to the rank of Commander of the National Order of the Lion of Senegal by His Excellency the President of the Republic is a tremendous honor, which I accept with humility and pride. Dear people of Senegal, you are the true champions of Africa. Thank you, once again. And see you soon for new, even more glorious adventures.”
