According to Corriere dello Sport, Andrea Pirlo's sponsorship cooperation with the Russian betting platform Fonbet has sparked controversy, and the Italian consumer rights organization Codacons plans to file a complaint regarding his potential appointment as head coach of the Italian national team.

Codacons to File Complaint Regarding Pirlo Incident

Codacons issued a statement saying that it will submit a formal complaint to the Communications Regulatory Authority tomorrow, requesting an investigation into the violation of the ban on advertising and sponsorship of gambling and money games. If the Italian Football Federation officially appoints Pirlo as the national team coach, Codacons will also immediately appeal to the Lazio Regional Administrative Court to block the appointment. The organization stated that according to current regulations, Pirlo is "completely incompatible" with an Italian football management position. The statement also said that Pirlo is currently the spokesperson for a Russian betting company and has created prohibited gambling advertisements in Italy through social media and other activities, violating Article 9 of the Dignity Decree, which explicitly prohibits any form of direct or indirect promotion of betting and gambling with prizes.

Pirlo, Codacons will try to block his possible appointment as head coach

The statement concluded that if the regulatory authority accepts the complaint, Pirlo could face a fine equivalent to 20% of the sponsorship amount. Agcom will apply the fine jointly to the principal, advertising agency, communication channels, and spokespersons who lend their image. Codacons is also preparing to take action in the administrative justice system: if the Italian Football Federation officially announces Pirlo's appointment as head coach of the national team, the organization will appeal to the Lazio Regional Administrative Court, requesting to block the appointment based on the "obvious incompatibility" of the former player with the position.
