Match Report
Stadio Romeo Anconetani had already played host to three goalless draws this season, and there was little in the opening quarter of the match to suggest this wouldn’t be the fourth. Pisa were getting the ball into their opponents’ box more regularly, but their lack of end product made them look every bit the side who had scored just once at home all season. Approaching the midpoint of the half, Idrissa Touré weaved into the area from the right wing, only to blast his shot into the side netting, rather than pick out teammates in better positions.
Two minutes later, the hosts seemed to be finding some rhythm when Michel Aebischer laid the ball on a plate for Henrik Meister, but he sent his effort straight at Marco Carnesecchi, before both fluffed their lines attempting to turn home the rebound. That was the last time the Atalanta goalkeeper was called upon before HT, while at the other end, Le Dea produced nothing to trouble Simone Scuffet in the hosts’ goal, to ensure the scores were level at the break for the ninth time in 11 Pisa home games this season.
Pisa continued looking likelier to break the deadlock early in the second half, when Stefano Moreo’s header from a Mattéo Tramoni corner brought the best out of a diving Carnesecchi. But Atalanta then finally came close in the 57th minute, as Charles De Ketelaere did exceptionally well to get free along the byline and cut the ball back to Giorgio Scalvini, but his low effort was met by the outstretched boot of Scuffet.
Inside the final 15 minutes, Gabriele Piccinini created space for himself in the Atalanta area and tried his luck, and though his strike took a deflection, Carnesecchi reacted well to tip it away and stay on track for a fourth consecutive clean sheet. And that seemed vital with eight minutes of normal time remaining, when Kamaldeen Sulemana’s low centre caused havoc in the Pisa box, and Nikola Krstović was on hand to stab home what looked sure to be the winning goal.
However, in the 87th minute, a superb Mehdi Léris cross was glanced into the bottom corner of the Atalanta net by Rafiu Durosinmi, giving the Pisa fans just a second home goal of the season to celebrate. Despite all of their previous stalemates, this is at least the first home score draw for Pisa, while Atalanta have now seen the HT result replicated at FT for the 17th time in Serie A this season.
