Tottenham news: Mauricio Pochettino returned back to his home in London just hours after Antonio Conte's departure from Spurs was confirmed

A club statement announced late into Sunday evening that the Italian was to leave the club by mutual consent, with Cristian Stellini to assume first-team responsibilities alongside Ryan Mason.

Further along in the statement, Daniel Levy said: "We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our club and amazing, loyal supporters.”

Following the departures of Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo, Pochettino was also linked with a sensational return, however now given his availability, talk of a reunion in north London has spiked. On Instagram, the 51-year-old has been posting several stories of his time in Asia, but last night he returned "home" from his trip.

The Instagram story posted by Pochettino came just a few hours before news broke of Conte's exit. Two years after his exit, while managing Paris Saint-Germain Pochettino told Rio Ferdinand that he still thought of Tottenham as "his club", in another hint he would one day like to return. “I still feel that it's my club, my place,” he said.

“I think when you really feel with the commitment and when you feel the people give everything to try to be successful, and they treat you really, really good how they treat us, it's impossible to forget that. That is why I think Tottenham is always going to be a special club for me."
