Pochettino suffers another injury blow in final stages of Chelsea vs Brighton

Ben Chilwell was forced to leave the pitch in the latter stages of Chelsea's Carabao Cup game with Brighton & Hove Albion because of injury. The 26-year-old, who was the captain for the Blues on the night at Stamford Bridge, left the pitch with the side having to play the final minutes of the game with 10 men after using all their substitutes.

The game, that was eventually won by a Nicolas Jackson goal in the second-half, was in its final stages when Chilwell went down. The England international and the Blues' vice-captain was then forced to leave the pitch with what looks to be a muscular problem.

But fortunately, Chelsea were able to hold on to what is their first win of the month. In fact, Jackson's cool strike in the second-half was the Blues' first goal in September.

However, losing Chilwell would be a massive blow for Mauricio Pochettino, who is already missing a whole host of first-team players. Benoit Badiashile and Carney Chukwuemeka are recovering well but are not available for selection.

The likes of Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Reece James, Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia are all further behind in their recovery programmes. Malo Gusto is suspended for the next two games and likewise, Jackson will miss the trip to Fulham on Monday.

Marc Cucurella, though, impressed in the win versus Brighton on Wednesday evening. Cucurella, who has been out of favour under Pochettino so far, played at right-back and did a decent job on Kaoru Mitoma before the Japan international was taken off in the second period.
