Paul Pogba was ready to quit Manchester United had Jose Mourinho stayed on as manager, the Frenchman's brother Mathias reveals.
The £89million midfielder clashed on multiple occasions with Mourinho during his tenure and his brother has opened up on how Pogba considered departing the club for the second time in his career before the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
'Did Paul think about leaving because of Mourinho? Of course,' Mathias told Telefoot.
'Of course. It comes to mind. But today he is where he is. He was under contract so he had to grit his teeth and keep working.'
The 25-year-old's relationship with Mourinho soured quickly and was left in tatters after he was reportedly stripped off the captaincy in front of his team-mates.
Pogba became frustrated at not being able to express himself and there was a real low point for both when they were caught on camera clashing during a training session.
That row was said to have emerged with Mourinho taking issue with Pogba's social media posts during United's shock Carabao Cup exit on penalties to Derby County.
Pogba was in the stands with Luke Shaw and Andreas Pereira and a video emerged of him laughing, something which later angered Mourinho as he thought it had been posted once their cup exit was confirmed.
Mourinho's position became more and more untenable as the season wore on and a 3-1 defeat against league leaders Liverpool proved the final straw for the club's hierarchy with a number of players contemplating exits had he remained.
Since the arrival of Solskjaer, Pogba's form has shown a complete turnaround.
In the Norwegian manager's eight league games so far, Pogba has stepped up as a real leader and has netted six goals and five assists.
Against Leicester on Sunday the Frenchman played Marcus Rashford through for what proved to be the only goal of a tight game to make it 10 games unbeaten since Mourinho departed.
He appears far happier in the current set-up and is showing the performances to match. United fans will be growing more and more grateful he was not shown the exit door for a second time at Old Trafford.
