41% of Marca readers think Messi should have been sent off in Sevilla game

There was a tense moment between Lionel Messi and Diego Carlos at the very end of the first half of Sevilla's 0-0 draw against Barcelona on Friday night.

The Brazilian defender put in a challenge on the Argentine, to which Messi responded by confronting his opponent and shoving him.

The referee didn't show either player a card, not yellow nor red.

On MARCA, we asked readers for their views on the situation.

There was no majority, but 41 percent of readers thought that Messi should have been shown a red card and that Diego Carlos should have been left unpunished.

That was closely followed by the 34 percent who believed the referee should have booked both players and ended the matter that way.

Over 2,000 voted in the poll and the results are outlined below.
