16' CHANCE! Pepe's shot over the bar

That's close from Pepe! On the turn, the centre-back volleys the ball towards Pyatov with his left foot following a cleared Portugal corner and the goalkeeper takes no chances and tips it over the bar.

17' OFFSIDE! Carvalho's goal disallowed

CLOSE TO AN OPENER! Carvalho thought he had scored! He was unmarked at the back post and stooped low to head the cross back across goal and into the net, but he was a fraction offside and Clement Turpin makes the correct decision to rule it out. It's still 0-0 at the Estadio da Luz.

24' CHANCE! Ronaldo's shot saved

RONALDO COMES CLOSE! Guerreiro's pass finds the forward in an excellent position and he cuts inside and tries to squeeze the ball between Pyatov's legs, but the Ukraine goalkeeper is alert to the danger and makes an important save.

28' CLOSE! Ronaldo's shot saved

RONALDO AGAIN! The Juventus forward did what he does best and used his quick feet to create space for himself on the left side of the box, but Pyatov gets down low to his right to save Ronaldo's left-footed shot and keep the score at 0-0.

57' NICE SHOT! Andre Silva's shot saved

PYATOV MAKES ANOTHER SAVE! Portugal are setting up camp in Ukraine's defensive third for the moment and they're working the ball around very nicely. It eventually falls to Andre Silva just at the edge of the box and Pyatov makes another stunning save with his right hand to deny the striker a goal!

Match Report

Cristiano Ronaldo was frustrated on his return to international duty as Portugal were held to a 0-0 draw by Ukraine in their opening Euro 2020 qualifier.

Having not featured for Portugal since their defeat to Uruguay at World Cup 2018, Ronaldo was back for Friday's encounter in Lisbon, but failed to inspire a victory as the Euro 2016 champions began their Group B campaign on a flat note.

Andriy Pyatov played a key part in frustrating the hosts, twice denying Ronaldo in the first half before pulling off an exceptional save from Andre Silva.
