This week, in an interview with Melbourne radio station SEN 1116, Postecoglou recalled his experience of being sacked by Nottingham Forest.

Postecoglou said: "I haven't told this story, but it was brutal, I was sacked immediately after the (Chelsea) game... I knew this day would come sooner or later, it could happen at any time."
"But they sacked me directly after the game, before I even had time to do media interviews, but they already knew. I walked into the hallway and just wanted to leave, because I was about to do something I would regret."
"I haven't talked to the assistant coaches yet, they might also say 'we're going to be fired', so I need to say something to them, but I was walking through a crowd of media reporters and people watching me."
"I just wanted to get out of there at the time, the security guards were really nice, they asked me: 'How do you want to leave?' During the Premier League game, all the roads were blocked, and my car couldn't move for about half an hour, so I was alone."
"I talked to Georgia (Postecoglou's wife) for half an hour, and then the security said: 'Look, the road is open, but there's traffic outside', they tried their best to help me through, but I was stuck at a traffic light for at least 15 minutes."
"Chelsea fans were yelling at me, and Nottingham Forest fans were no better. I'm sitting in the car now, lying down. Also, kids came over to ask for a photo, what to do? I don't want to disappoint them, whatever mistakes I've made, I've paid a heavy price for it."
