James Milner has announced his retirement from football, bringing an end to a 24-year Premier League career.

Milner announced his decision on social media, having represented Leeds United, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Liverpool and most recently Brighton in the English top flight.
The 40-year-old made his senior debut in November 2002 at the age of 16 for Leeds.
Milner is the third-youngest (16 years, 356 days) and second-oldest (39 years, 239 days) goalscorer in Premier League history, while he has also assisted the most different players in the competition (47).
The former England international has made the most appearances in Premier League history (658), surpassing Gareth Barry's previous record earlier this season, while he has made 964 senior appearances for club and country throughout his career.
"After 24 seasons in the Premier League, it feels like the right time to bring an end to my playing career," Milner said on social media.

"I've been fortunate enough to experience some unforgettable moments, from fighting for survival to winning trophies, playing in Europe, and representing my country at two European Championships and two World Cups.
"But more than anything, it's the people and friendships I've made throughout the game that I'll cherish forever."
Milner has won three Premier League titles, twice with City and once with Liverpool, where he also won the Champions League in 2018-19.
He has also lifted the FA Cup twice in his career, as well as two EFL Cups, two Community Shields, one Super Cup and one Club World Cup.
His tally of 90 assists ranks 10th in the Premier League all-time records, while he netted 56 goals.
Milner also won 61 caps for England, representing the Three Lions at four major tournaments (2010 and 2014 World Cups, 2012 and 2016 Euros).
