The holders, who have a defensive injury crisis, named a back line including teenagers Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Eric Garcia but were untroubled at Deepdale on Tuesday.
Raheem Sterling excelled, scoring the opening goal in the 19th minute and recording two assists in the first half, with Gabriel Jesus also on target for Pep Guardiola's men.

Sterling with a terrific solo goal, he picks the ball up just inside the Preston half, sprints past three or four defenders and then fires a shot towards goal, which is deflected and this sends the ball over Ripley and into the back of the net.

Jesus with a good low finish at the near post, underneath Ripley and into the back of the net after Sterling's through ball. The striker was allowed far too much time and space in the box, with Sterling's pass falling straight to his feet and he couldn't really miss from that distance.
42' OWN GOAL! Preston 0-3 Man City (Ledson)
Sterling finds David Silva deep inside the penalty area and the City skipper looks up and tries to pick out Bernardo Silva or Jesus in the six-yard box, but Ledson slides in and blocks it. However, unfortunately for Preston, that wrong foots the keeper and sends the ball straight into the back of the net.
60' OFF THE POST! Harrop almost scores
Preston go close as Harrop strikes the woodwork! The striker did well to hold off the challenge of Garcia and fire a shot towards the bottom right-hand corner, it beats Bravo, but cannons off the post!

Foden dribbles into the penalty area, cuts onto his left foot and tries to curl the ball into the top right-hand corner of the net. It has Ripley beaten in the Preston goal, but it cannons off the crossbar. So close to a fourth goal!
