RB Leipzig vs Nuremberg: probable line-ups, match stats

  /  autty

Timo Werner will reach the milestone of 50 Bundesliga goals if the jet-heeled RB Leipzig forward finds the net against Nuremberg on Sunday (kick-off 6:00pm CEST/5:00pm BST/12:00pm ET).

Latest

Werner was rested as Leipzig beat Rosenborg 3-1 in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday. Ralf Rangnick rang the changes for the trip to Norway, but is expected to revert to his preferred starting line-up against Nuremberg. That means Jean-Kevin Augustin and Matheus Cunha - on target in midweek - will almost certainly drop back to the bench, with Yussuf Poulsen - scorer of a match-winning brace at Hoffenheim - set to partner Werner in attack. Emil Forsberg missed the Hoffenheim game with a groin problem, and remains a doubt.

Nuremberg bounced back convincingly from the 7-0 pounding they took at Borussia Dortmund to beat fellow new boys Fortuna Düsseldorf 3-0 last time out. After opening his Bundesliga account having come off the bench at half-time on Matchday 6, former Leipzig forward Federico Palacios could start. Sebastian Kerk played for Der Club's reserve team last weekend, but is only likely to return from a year-long absence due to a ruptured Achilles tendon after the international break.

Match stats

Werner is one shy of his 50th Bundesliga goal. The Leipzig No.11 has had a league-high 29 shots on goal so far this season.

The Germany striker is only Leipzig's third-top scorer this season, though. Poulsen and Augustin have scored three each, with Werner on two.

Leipzig have won 10 of the last 15 possible points, making them the Bundesliga's strongest side over the last five matchdays. Rangnick's side are also unbeaten against promoted teams since they joined the elite in 2016/17 (five wins, two draws).

Nuremberg have scored six of their seven goals this season in the second half. The only exception was captain Hanno Behrens' 28th-minute penalty in last week's 3-0 win over Düsseldorf.

Kevin Kampl could make his 100th Bundesliga appearance against Nuremberg. The Slovenian has played 14 top-flight games for Borussia Dortmund, 53 for Bayer Leverkusen and 32 for Leipzig.

This is the first meeting between Leipzig and Nuremberg in the Bundesliga, making it the 908th different fixture in the German top flight.
