On Monday, Andres Iniesta confirmed that he has decided to retire from professional football with immediate effect. The 40-year-old ends his career with 35 trophies, and as a legend of Barcelona and Spanish football.
Iniesta is widely regarded as one of the most beloved figures in Spanish sport, largely because of his winning goal in the 2010 World Cup final. Despite being Barcelona’s greatest rivals, Real Madrid also recognise him as being a talismanic figure, and they have paid tribute to him following confirmation of his retirement.
