Kylian Mbappe certainly didn’t enjoy Euro 2024, and his broken nose seemed to play a part in that. After a collision with Austria defender Kevin Danso, Mbappe missed a game and then played with a mask, until the semi-finals, when he discarded it against Spain.
He did provide the assist for Randal Kolo Muani but never looked comfortable, and admitted after the match that his tournament was ‘a failure’. Next week he is due at Real Madrid, where he will be presented on the 16th of July to the Santiago Bernabeu in front of tens of thousands, as per Cadena Cope. Ten days later, teenage striker Endrick Felipe will be presented too, just before Real Madrid head off on their preseason tour to the USA, where Los Blancos face AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea.
On the day of his presentation, Marca say that Los Blancos will put Mbappe through a stringent medical, and will look to establish whether he needs facial surgery to repair his nose. Mbappe is then set for holidays until the beginning of August, when he will join his teammates after they return from their tour to the USA. Carlo Ancelotti is keen to have all of his squad available for selection on the 14th of August against Atalanta in the European Supercup.
Recent reports have stated that Mbappe is likely to escape surgery on his nose, having been deemed fit to play for France at the Euros. Equally, it seems Brahim Diaz and Jude Bellingham will also avoid going under the knife for their shoulder issues, which should allow Ancelotti to field an all-star line-up on the 14th of August.
