On April 5, according to Romanian media Digi24, citing a statement released by the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital (SUUB), Lucescu was transferred from the cardiology department to the ICU last night due to a deterioration in his health.

The hospital stated: "On Saturday night, the patient experienced several episodes of severe cardiac arrhythmia, which were controlled by the timely intervention of the cardiology team on duty. By early Sunday morning, the arrhythmia had worsened and was no longer responding to treatment, leading to a deterioration in the patient's condition and the need for transfer to the intensive care unit."
Doctors also pointed out that there are currently no new developments in his condition.
The hospital stated on Saturday morning that the patient's condition was developing in line with existing disease characteristics, and the overall trend had once been positive. At the same time, the hospital emphasized that it would release official information when necessary and called on the public to respect the patient's dignity and privacy.
It is understood that Lucescu suffered an acute myocardial infarction at the hospital last Friday morning, after being rushed to the hospital last weekend due to discomfort. At the time, he suddenly felt unwell during a technical meeting before the national team's training session, and was affected by Romania's 0-1 loss to Turkey in the World Cup qualifying play-offs, failing to qualify.
He then did not travel with the team to Slovakia for the match. The Romanian team was temporarily led by assistant coach Ionel Gane, losing 0-2 in a friendly match.
The Romanian Football Federation also announced on its official website last Thursday that Lucescu's tenure as national team coach had ended. Federation President Răzvan Burleanu said that if he recovers, he will be invited to continue to participate in national team affairs in a new role in the coming months.
During Lucescu's tenure, the Romanian national team performed well in the UEFA Nations League, successfully qualifying for the play-offs to compete for a place in this summer's World Cup. His record during his tenure was 11 wins, 1 draw, and 6 losses.
