AS Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini admits he was emotional as he proved the matchwinner against Lazio on Sunday.
Axed as club captain and encouraged to find himself a new club last summer, Pellegrini struck the only goal of the game today.
Pellegrini said afterwards: "I was moved after the goal because, ever since I got injured, the people close to me know how much I wanted to get back to fitness. It was a difficult period, full of hard work but also of determination.
"I know there are many people who love me as much as I love them; I've never doubted that. This team can still improve a lot; we have many players with personality who care deeply about Roma. I'm proud to be one of the captains who transmits this passion to those who come after me."
Pellegrini added, "Above all, the constant is that I love Roma, and as long as I wear this jersey, I'll always give it my all. I don't know what will happen in the future because life is unpredictable. I was one step away from leaving, and today I scored the winning goal. Those who love me know I miss scoring under the Sud, but it's also fine under the Tevere if it helps us win."
