Cristiano Ronaldo has racked up his 40th goal of the year and crept ever closer to the dream of 1000 in his career.

The Portuguese superstar netted a brace for Al-Nassr in their 3-0 victory over Al Akhdoud on Saturday afternoon - taking his overall total to 956.

One of his most staunch supporters, Piers Morgan, took to social media in the wake of Ronaldo's double to declare him the game's greatest goalscorer of all time.

He wrote: 'He never stops scoring. Anywhere in the world, for any team. People can debate who the football GOAT is, but there’s no debate over the game’s greatest, and most relentless goal-scorer. It’s Cristiano Ronaldo.'

Ronaldo himself also shared a message with his 105 million followers on X, writing: 'Hard work is the way to success!'

The consistency of the 40-year-old is remarkable and he has now scored more than 40 times in fourteen different calendar years across his career.

His most successful campaign in terms of hitting the back of the net was in 2013 when he scored 63 times in all competitions for club and country.

The Portugal star is still in remarkable condition and recently shared a shirtless photo showcasing his incredible physique.

In an interview with the aforementioned Piers Morgan last month, he said he believes he is one or two years away from retirement.

He swears by Pilates, regular swims and five trips to the gym a week.

These include 25-30 minutes of cardio, high-intensity sprinting and targeted weights to increase muscle strength.

In total, he works out for three to four hours a day.

Furthermore, rather than sticking to the traditional three-meal structure of breakfast-lunch-dinner, Ronaldo prefers to refuel with six smaller 'mini-meals' throughout the day: Breakfast, brunch, lunch, snack, supper, dinner.

His relentless dedication to squeezing every last drop out of his career will surely make the 1000 goals an inevitability.

Ronaldo is also gunning for World Cup glory in the US next year in what would be a fairytale conclusion for him.

In the meantime, he is focusing on maintaining his red hot form for Al-Nassr having scored 12 in nine games this season.

He has hit the ground running after a recent break and the win means Al-Nassr have claimed three points in each of their 10 games so far this season to leave them four points top of the Saudi Pro League.
